Police boss laments high rate of rape, sodomy in Kaduna community

WORRIED by the high rate of rape and sodomy in Rigasa community, the Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Austin Iwar, has charged leaders of the community to be proactive in tackling the menace.

The police commissioner made the plea during his tour of communities in the state .

Iwar stated that he had been visiting communities since his assumption of office  in order to hear directly from community members  about  their security challenges, saying that policing now could not be done without the involvement of the communities.

While appreciating the setting up of the civilian JTF in the community, he noted that the outfit should operate within the confines of the law.

“You should not take the  laws into your hands. When I arrived here, some of the objects I saw with members of civilian JTF and the Central Safety and Security Patrol Unit frightened me. Nigeria is not a lawless country.

“We need to regulate these outfits and see how we can  work together to reduce crimes in the area,” he said.

Iwar told  leaders of the community to  do something on the high cases of rape and sodomy.

On the demand for additional police divisions in the area, the police boss remarked that the police is willing to add more divisions but for lack of funds, saying that at the moment,  “we have 44 police divisions in the state andwe need additional 50 police divisions.
