A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and aspirant for the House of Representatives in Egbeda/Ona-Ara federal constituency, Honourable Tope Oladimeji, has trained over 300 women and youths of the constituency in various vocational skills.
The six-month training programme, which was concluded, on Wednesday, through Honourable Oladimeji’s foundation, OTOPE, saw women and youths exhibit talents in their chosen areas of vocational specialisations.
Oladimeji, speaking at the empowerment programme, decried the high rate of unemployment and vices in the country and reiterated the need to create jobs for the vulnerable, especially women and the youth.
He said it was of paramount importance to tackle the menace of unemployment in the country, which had played a major role in the high rate of social vices among youths in the community, state and the nation as a whole.
According to him, “OTOPE Foundation is a movement that is committed to giving good representation to the people and bringing massive development to the Egbeda/Ona Ara federal constituency.
“OTOPE will never abandon his people if given the opportunity to serve them.”
The coordinator of the foundation, Mr Ayinde Gbadeogun, represented by the youth coordinator at the event, Mr Idris Gbadeogun, said the empowerment programme was the second phase in the series of training conducted within nine months.
He said participants were drawn from the 22 wards that make up the constituency, saying the initiative by Honourable Oladimeji was commendable and well-thought-out.
Beneficiaries thanked Honourable Oladimeji for the opportunity, saying he had given them hope for a better life.
Under this initiative, OTOPE Foundation had earlier empowered over 200 people from Egbeda/Ona-Ara federal constituency in the first phase of the empowerment held in December 2020, where over 100 women and youths were given start-up cash of ? 10,000 each, to commence business and over 100 farmers were given farm tools and token to support their businesses.
