FORMER governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, on Sunday said his ultimate goal for seeking the chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is to work towards its victory in 2019 General Election.

According to Daniel, in a statement made available to newsmen in Lagos on Sunday, one of his focus if voted as National Chairman of PDP will be to bring back into the fold many party men and women who have left for one reason or the other.

“My ultimate goal is to work towards the victory of our party in the 2019 General Election and in all other elections in between. To achieve this, I am prepared to work with all leaders of our party, various interest groups and individuals,” the PDP chieftain said.

The former governor assured that under his chairmanship, PDP would not only find a new identity, “but would reclaim its lost glory and salvage the ship of the Nigerian state.”

While noting that Nigerians were once again ready to “change the ‘change,'” Otunba Daniel promised to be the destined captain to pilot the affairs of the party to the Promised Land.

Daniel lamented that PDP that was hitherto governed by ethos and administered by internal conflict management mechanism based on equity, fairness, transparency and democracy, lost some of the states under its control especially in the South West in 2015, and suffered huge loss in its public perception ratings due to abandonment of such ethos and qualities.

“Our party has lost many of its human political capital; it has lost many if its founding fathers, by consistently been overwhelmed by the struggle for leadership positions, not only in most states of the federation, but even at the national level of the party.

“I am sill proud to say that our party, PDP was and still remain the greatest political party, not only in Nigeria, but in the entire continent of Africa. We were one big happy family, representing the greatest hopes and aspirations of most Nigerians,” the ex-governor said.

He, however, assured that with the help of God and leaders of the PDP, he will return happy days to the party platform if voted in as its next national chairman.
