MORE than 50 companies, organisations and vendors in the baby and child- care sector are expected to converge on Lagos, this year, for the maiden edition of the Nigeria Baby Fair, an annual exhibition, competition and awards event, aimed at bringing together stakeholders in the baby and child care industry.
Speaking at the media briefing to announce the event, in Lagos, the Project Communication Director, Nigeria Baby Fair, Mr. Jide Benson explained that the event, expected to feature an array of products and services for early- child needs as well as a lot of sale attractions, is designed to bring together players in the value chain of the infant and early-child space.

He added that the three-day event, scheduled for August 2 and 4, this year, will provide a platform for expectant and nursing mothers, baby food makers, child care products manufacturers and other stakeholders in the baby and child care industry to network and establish a relationship that will better the lots of infants in the country.
In her own remarks on the forthcoming fair, the company’s Project Director, Tolulope Olorundero explained that the fair seeks to achieve a number of objectives , which include providing an organized single meeting point for young parents and sellers of kiddies’ items, as well as service providers to meet current potential clients.
She also expressed the hope that such fraternity would manufacturers and consumers would go a long way in boosting small and medium scale industries in the country.
“We particularly want to encourage SMEs that have grown their businesses, using social media. We also intend for it to expand the scope of the event industry in Nigeria,” she added.
A key part of the fair, she explained, is its social impact and philantrophy; since the general public will be encouraged to donate items that they no longer use for their babies and infants, for onward distribution among orphanages and other less-privileged individuals.
“We believe such items will enable such less privileged individuals the opportunity to give their babies and infants basic necessities,” she added.
She added that the fair is inspired by the increasing birth rate in Nigeria and the big industry that serves their needs.
The fair is intended to an annual event for players in the baby and child-care sector to meet, showcase new product range and interact with a large number of consumer segment at one venue.
