The Osun State Government on Monday organised a workshop for selected teachers from government technical colleges and officials of the Ministry of Education, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening technical and vocational education in the state.
Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Technical and Vocational Education, Hon. Dapo Ademola Adesina, gave the assurance while declaring open the workshop organised by IHS Nigeria Limited in partnership with the Osun State Board for Technical and Vocational Education. The training, held in Osogbo, was designed to build the capacity of teachers and improve their effectiveness in technical and vocational education.
Adesina said the state government would embrace proposals that enhance technical and vocational education.
He added that Governor Adeleke’s administration would continue to prioritise empowerment through capacity training and human capital development, while urging teachers to align with the governor’s vision for transformative changes in the education sector.
“We must begin by changing the mindset of our teachers, we need to re-orientate their mindsets to adapt to new ideas / innovation. If you recall, there is a particular attention on vocational and technical education which has been the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu,” he said.
“And we in Osun board of technical education, we tried how we can partner with the private sector, so that the private sector can help us achieve our aim and that is how we went to IHS, we told them our idea, and they are collaborating with us on this shifting of teachers mindsets.”
“We want to shift teacher’s mindset because teachers are the ones that impact knowledge on pupils. We are all products of teachers. If you look back, most of teachers that taught some of us here, are still in classrooms still teaching. So, we need to encourage them, so that they can impact ideas and knowledge on students.”
The special adviser also expressed the determination of the state government to collaborate with other development agencies to strengthen technical and vocational education.
In her remarks, the Director of IHS, Mrs Titilope Oguntuga, said the organisation had concluded arrangements to provide resources for secondary schools in the state, adding that it would continue to work with the government to promote education, especially technical and vocational learning.
She stressed that the future of the state and the country would be built in the classroom, making it imperative to make teaching and practical training more attractive.
“Today is not just the launch of a program — it is the beginning of a movement. A movement we have called OSUN TEACHER-SHIFT 2025. Why “Teacher-Shift”? Because this is more than just training. It is a mindset shift,” she said.
“It is about reimagining how we prepare our teachers, our students, and ultimately our communities for the opportunities and challenges of a fast-evolving world. We know that teachers are the heartbeat of every educational system. They are nation builders, shaping not just lessons, but the very outlook of the next generation.”
“And yet, in today’s world, the demands on our teachers are greater than ever before. We need educators who can inspire creativity, nurture innovation, and equip young people with practical skills that will help them thrive in a world driven by technology, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving.”

She added, “We are empowering technical and vocational education teachers with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to deliver 21st-century learning. This means, more than knowing the latest techniques — it’s about fostering adaptability, encouraging critical thinking, and cultivating the entrepreneurial mindset that will enable our students to be skilled, self-reliant, and ready to lead.”
According to her, the vision is to build “an Osun State where every student has a teacher who is not just an instructor, but a mentor, a coach, and a champion of possibilities,” and to reposition technical and vocational education as a pathway to innovation, productivity, and community development.
She thanked the Osun State Government, partners and stakeholders for their commitment, adding: “To every teacher participating in this program — you are the heart of this transformation. Your willingness to learn, adapt, and lead will create a ripple effect that will touch thousands of lives for years to come.”
