Osun APC caucus raises alarm over assassination plot, calls for police intervention

A caucus of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Osun State, The Osun Progressives (TOP), on Thursday, raised the alarm that there are conspiratorial and diabolical plans of some top government officials and the party chieftains in the state to attack and assassinate its leaders in TOP.

The chairman of TOP in the state, Reverend Adelowo Adebiyi who raised the alarm at a press conference in Osogbo, however, called on President Muhammadu Buhari, Inspector General of Police, Director General of Department of State Security Service, Chief of Staff to the President, and Secretary to the Federal Government to urgently intervene in the crisis rocking the party.

According to him, “the caucus had petitioned the State Police Commissioner, Olawale Olokode on the alleged attack on his members and we further call on security agencies in the state to forestall the speculated plot to attack and assassinate leaders of the group.”

“We want to put on record, information on attempts by some elements, allegedly within government and our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) to attack and murder some of the leaders of The Osun Progressives (TOP).

“It is important that we bring to public knowledge this evil intention, despite that, we have informed relevant security agencies who had assured us of taking steps to investigate the information and as well ensure the protection of the lives of the leadership and members of our caucus.

“We plead with the authorities; starting from our amiable President, Inspector General of Police, Director-General of DSS, Chief of Staff to the president, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, to quickly intervene and stop desperate elements in Osun APC from spilling the blood of the innocents for their selfish interests.

‘Anybody’s selfish interest is not enough to spill another man’s blood,’ a former president of Nigeria once noted. We also call on the National Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the APC to take a closer look at and get more than passing interest in the developing events in Osun APC.

“We equally wish that elders of the APC, especially our father and leader who was a Governor in Osun, Chief Bisi Akande to take more than mere interest in the squabbles here, even when we acknowledge his earlier efforts as noble but fruitless because the policy of the government is anti-democratic,” he submitted.

In his prompt reaction, the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Ismail Omipidan remarked that the statement credited to one Elder Adelowo Adebiyi, a self-styled leader of a certain group within the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, is not only mischievous, it is also wickedly calculated at smearing the good name and Godly image of Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

Omipidan, further said all those behind the malicious and unguarded statement might be the ones actually plotting something sinister.

He argued that only a mischievous character would accuse a person of the Governor’s standing, who in the last three years has not through his actions and inactions did anything to portray him as a man given to violence or the government he leads capable of an assassination plot.

“This was a man some persons tried to assassinate last year. God in his infinite mercies delivered him. To date, Mr Governor has not lifted a finger. But if it were Adelowo, only God knows what would have happened.

“At his level as the former acting chairman of the party, if he has any issue, he should see security operatives and give them the particulars that will aid their job rather than make spurious and unguarded statements.

“That said, I want to implore security operatives to be on the alert. Elder Adebiyi and others might be the ones actually plotting something sinister and might therefore just be looking for an alibi. Isn’t it said that we judge others by our own standards? Omipidan queried.
