THE Postmaster General/ CEO of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), Barrister Adebisi Adegbuyi, has said that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will launch the Digital Addressing System for effective parcel delivery across the country.
The Digital Addressing system will enable the postman to locate the customer anywhere in the country, and also assist security operatives in having a well-detailed address of Nigerians so that perpetrators of crimes will be easily apprehended.
Speaking at the launch of the Last Mile Delivery, Barrister Adegbuyi said after the launch of the Digital Addressing System, every home in Nigeria will have its digital address.
“In order for us to effectively deliver parcels and packages to our people, we have leveraged on Technology and we will soon launch what we call Digital Addressing System. Every single home in Nigeria will have a digital addressing system, the case of wrong addresses will be over.
“In doing that, we are not unmindful of our responsibilities to this society, we must use this massive national infrastructure to ensure that we bring to the barest minimum the commission of crime, once you have a digital addressing system, or you couple it with a digitalized address verification system, we will succeed undoubtedly in ensuring that the people who commit crime will have a rethink before they do that.
“If you embark on Last Mile Delivery initiatives and you don’t couple it with appropriate Addressing System, of course, you want to deliver, but if your postman finds it difficult to locate where your costumer is, the job is not completed, therefore, we have also leveraged on Technology and we have the Vice President of Nigeria who is the Chairman of National Addressing Council to launch our State of the Art Digital Addressing System.”
Speaking on the Last Mile Delivery initiative, the Postmaster General said the reason for the introduction of the initiative was to ensure timely delivery of parcels to customers no matter their location in the country.

He said this initiative would further ensure that the NIPOST compete favourably with other Delivery company’s in Nigeria and also make the Postal Service gain a global recognition.
“The Last Mile Delivery is at the heart of postal operations, if you deliver parcels to a customer, if don’t get items delivered to them timely and in a manner that would give them the confidence that they have a postal administration that is on top of its game, you can’t be competitive.
“We introduced the Last Mile delivery particularly because people buy most of the stuff, items online, therefore the importance of Last Mile Delivery cannot be overemphasised.
“What we are doing is also to leverage on appropriate technology to enhance it, we have connected these bikes with our IPS which means as the postman is riding his bike to come and deliver your parcel to you, you can from your comfort of your home track and check, this is part of the innovation we have brought together.
“Any postal service in the world who is not ready to leverage on the existing and evolving technologies will be left behind, and we cannot afford to be left behind, and that is why we are doing everything possible, don’t forget, our competitors are out there,” Barrister Adegbuyi noted.”
A total of 47 motorcycles were launched by the Postmaster General for the Last Mile Delivery service, it will be recalled that recently, similar launching took place in Lagos where 90 motors were also provided for Last Mile Delivery.
