THE Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) will on January 19, 2019, inaugurate a committee to put a final stop to controversies that have greeted the Olubadan chieftaincy review embarked upon by the Governor Abiola Ajimobi led government.
President General, CCII, Chief Yemi Soladoye, made this disclosure at a reception organised to celebrate Ajimobi’s 69th birthday, held at International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, on Sunday.
According to Soladoye, the mandate of the committee will be to look at the perspectives of authorisation, jurisdiction and operational guidelines, the Mogaji, the canceled rungs on the ladder up to the High Chiefs levels, the roles of the Kings family members and other issues that have emerged from the review.

Soladoye who noted that some of the ugly developments that followed the implementation of the review were not contemplated by the initiators and supporters of the review, avowed that the committee will be mandated to ensure that there is no victor, no vanquished and ensure that the issues are resolved before the expiration of Ajimobi’s second term in office.
“It should be made known to the entire world that the republican nature of our Chieftaincy system in Ibadan where there is no ruling house, no sacred crowns, no complicated Ifa Oracle consultations with the attendant issue of kings emerging at very old age due to a long queue of 45-rung ladder cannot be compared with any other one and definitely calls for constant, courageous and realistic reviews.
“However, there emerged some ugly developments during the implementation of the last review which were not contemplated by all the initiators and supporters of the review (Masquerades visit, stoppage of salaries, claim of independence by some of the new kings).
“At this juncture, the CCII is determined to see that all controversies surrounding the Olubadan Chieftaincy Review are resolved before the exit of Governor Ajimobi from office and to secure a no victor, no vanquished position on this matter.
“The CCII has for nine months re-examined the review from the perspectives of authorization, jurisdiction and operational guidelines, in an all-embracing manner touching on the Mogaji, the canceled rungs on the ladder up to the High Chiefs levels, the roles of the Kings family members and other developments.
“On 4th September 2018, the CCII sought His Excellency’s permission to generate suggestions from a 49-wise men committee (all Ibadan) for the consideration of the Olubadan-in-council and finally to be presented to the government for approval. The committee will be constituted on 19th January 2019 Insha Alla, one year after the landmark judgment of Justice Aiki and it will be headed by one of our revered elders in Ibadan land,” Soladoye said.
Among others, the event also marked the institution of Ibadan (Ajimobi) Foundation for Advanced Democracy (AFAD) and the commissioning of the writing of the book “Koseleri”.
Some guests who joined the celebrant at the event were the Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State; Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adetunji; Bashorun of Ibadan land, Chief Kola Daisi; state deputy governor, Mr Moses Adeyemo; President General, Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII); Managing Director, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, First Bank, Dr Adesola Adeduntan; retired Chief Judge of Oyo State, Justice Nurudeen Adekola; former President, CCII, Chief Bayo Oyero; Ibadan elders.
The CCII celebration had been preceded by Ajimobi being turbaned as Bashorun Musulumi of Oyo state and the inauguration of Ishaq Abiola Ajimobi Central Mosque, Oke-Ado, Ibadan by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar.
The Sultan, in his remarks, urged Ajimobi to live the rest of his life in the fear of God.
He prayed that Ajimobi reaps the benefits of building a mosque, among his other efforts at promoting Islam.
Speaking in the same vein, Islamic scholar, Sheikh Muhydeen Bello urged Ajimobi to seek the forgiveness of God and the people.
He warned Ajimobi against getting arrogant and boastful of his achievements as governor, urging him to also live the rest of his life outside office with the fear of God.
The turbaning of Ajimobi as the third Bashorun Musulumi of Oyo state was witnessed by the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Delta and Edo States, Alhaji Dawud Makanjuola; President, Muslim Ummah of Southwest, Dr. Zakariyyau Babalola; Iya Adinni of Yorubaland, Alhaja Sekinat Adekola; Chairman, Muslim Community of Oyo State, Alhaji Kunle Sanni; Chief Imam of Ibadan land, Sheikh Abdul-ganiyy Abubakar; Executive Secretary, Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria, MUSWEN, Prof. D.O.S. Noibi among others.
