A wise saying goes thus, ‘health is wealth.’ It was a beautiful day and a day to be remembered by the cocoa farmers in Akure, the Ondo State capital, as Olam Nigeria celebrated the Cocoa farmers.
The programme was a free medical screening conducted for farmers by Monitor Health Care was at Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Akure, and was coordinated by Dr Femi Ogunremi.
Highlights of the health care screening and sensitisation programme organised for 374 cocoa farmers in Akure include health checks like include test for breast cancer, hepatitis A and B, Malaria, blood sugar level, blood pressure, among others.

The programme was also attended by the Ondo State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, who was ably represented by an official, Mrs Suleiman Christiana.
She reiterated the need for youths to venture into farming as several agricultural opportunities abound in the state.
She also highlighted the fact that most of the farmers are ageing, hence, there’s the need for more able-bodied men and women to venture into agriculture.
Miss Jennifer Azuka Abuah, Head of cocoa sustainability, Olam Nigeria, urged the farmers to always make their health a priority. She also advised the farmers to engage in inter-cropping and diversify their farming as this will help them more in income generation.
