The Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) has commenced its 2023 annual general training programme for civil servants.
The Head of Service of the Federation (HoSF), Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, flagged off the training programme being held at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN), Abuja.
Yemi-Esan, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Common Service Office (CSO), Mrs Lydia Shehu Jafiya, stated that the training was in fulfilment of an earlier promise made during a “Town Hall meeting held on 14th September 2023, that all categories of staff would partake in one form of training or another before the end of the year.”
The Permanent Secretary, in her opening remarks, affirmed that she is a product of training and, as such, called on participants to take full advantage of it as it would help them progress in their various careers within the service. She also admonished them to exercise decorum during the course of the program.
Jafiya disclosed that the OHCSF has made the welfare of staff a top priority, saying this is why the Management accepted the request of the Joint Union Council for the training and end-of-year welfare, despite the fact that the outstanding 2022 training was only carried out in August 2023, assuring that the two requests will be met before the end of the year.
She further appreciated the esteemed and seasoned training facilitators while imploring them to put in their best to justify the commitment of management to get the best for its staff.
Speaking earlier in his welcome remarks, the representative of the Administrator of the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN), Mr Tunde Adeniran, Director of Studies and Learning, thanked the HoSF for the confidence reposed in the Institute for conducting the annual capacity-building exercise.
He added, “This is not the first one and will definitely not be the last.”
Mr. Adeniran stated that over the years, PSIN has enhanced the capacity of several Civil Servants to improve quality while assuring that the Institute would only get better since the Head of Service has adequately equipped them in terms of both human and capital resources.
Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Public Service Reportorial, Secretarial, Data Processors and Allied Workers (NUPSTRAW), Comrade Gideon Kukuwi, thanked the Permanent Secretary, CSO, for her role in ensuring that no staff of the HoSF goes hungry in this yuletide season.
