Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is expected to deliver the 16th convocation lecture of Bowen University, Iwo, slated for November 6, 2021, at the institution’s premises. The lecture will centre on ‘ Nation and the university system’.
The occasion will also witness the conferment of Bowen University honorary degree award on Late Dr Stella Adadevoh, a senior consultant physician who sacrificed her life to protect Nigeria from the Ebola virus in 2014. She died on October 19, 2014, at age of 58.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, gave the hint on Tuesday at a Press Conference organised by the university to mark the 16th convocation ceremony of the private Ivory Tower.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the university felt the need to recognise Late Dr Adadevoh’s indelible contributions to the development of the health sector and the safety of lives in Nigeria, especially in the area of Ebola virus spread control.
Speaking about the convocation, Professor Ogunwole declared that the university would present 1,014 graduating students who have completed their academic programmes for the university’s first degree awards, having passed through the university’s entrepreneurship, leadership education, and also found worthy in learning and in character. He noted that Bowen university education revolves around Godliness, academic excellence, leadership, innovation and social responsibility. This, he said, has helped the university to annually present productive graduates from different fields who can create jobs in society wherever they will ever find themselves in the labour market.
He said: “As you are all aware, the university system stands on the tripod of research, teaching and outreach. Also, we are aware that the governance of the Ivory Tower has a great influence on the output of the university system. I made bold to state that the governance system in our university has been able to propel us to the attainment of many laurels in different fields and still counting. Our success story is attributable to the effective teamwork of all the principal officers and every other staff in the university including our resilient students in building and sustaining a world standard university.
“Recently, Bowen University participated in the innovative challenge where a team of seven computer Science students and three staff members were involved. It is worth reporting that Bowen University was the only university that emerged in the first three positions, others were industries.
“We strive continually to be a centre of excellence in all we do with the fear of God in our endeavours because we built on the foundation of Jesus Christ.
