The investigative panel constituted by the authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, to look into the allegation of sexual harassment against a lecturer, Mr Olabisi Olaleye, of the Department of International Relations, has submitted its reports to the vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede.
According to a statement by the public relations officer of the university, Mr Abiodun Olarewaju, the chairperson of the panel and provost of the Postgraduate College, Professor Yetunde Ajibade, while presenting the reports thanked members to the university administration for the confidence reposed in them.
The vice-chancellor commended members of the panel for a job well done and restated the commitment of his administration to zero tolerance for any form of sexual and emotional harassment.
“Professor Ogunbodede urged any student or member of the university community to avail themselves of the opportunity of the open-door policy of the present administration to report any infringement on their rights by anybody to the appropriate organ of the university for possible investigation and redress,” the statement added.

The report will now be presented to the Academic and Promotion Committee of the university for deliberations, which will, in turn, present the outcome to the university’s governing council for a final decision.
The vice-chancellor also thanked the public for their interest in the university and pledged to always preserve the academic sanctity and intellectual integrity of the university as laid down by its founding fathers.
He also promised to make the final decision public.
Motunrayo Afolayan, a 400 level student in the Department of International Relations in the Faculty of Administration of the university had alleged that Professor Olaleye intimidated her because she refused his sexual advances.
