Operatives of the Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC are to undergo a special training at the Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria, preparatory for protecting ranches across the country.
Commandant General of NSCDC, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, disclosed this in Kaduna on Tuesday when he held a closed door meeting with the State Commandant in company of other management staff at the Command headquarters during an unscheduled visit.
The Commandant General’s visit which is first since he assumed office, explained that NSCDC is expected to provide physical security in and around proposed ranches throughout the country.
He said the corps is collaborating with Nigerian Army to ensure effective and efficient service delivery, noting that asides other professional and technical aspects of the training, the operatives would be trained on horse riding and motorbikes in line with the expectations of the work.
Humility, patience, tolerance and diligence are qualities must be imbibed by the personnel, to be able to succeed in the sensitive national assignment, he stressed.
He explained that government is trying to diversify into Agriculture to reduce over-dependence on oil which makes Nigeria a mono-economy, hence the initiative of creating ranches under the watch of the corps.
He tasked the Commandant, Head of Departments, Units and Divisional officers to mobilise personnel and stress the issue of discipline. He added that very soon mass deployment to mining sites and Boko Haram ravaged states would commence.
Responding on behalf of others, Commandant Modu Bunu pledged to support the Commandant General in all the good programmes, for him to succeed in order to justify tax-payers money expended on the corps.
