Yobe state Governor Mai Mala Buni on Thursday said the North should support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027, citing the president’s past backing of Northern candidates. He made the remark in Kaduna during the flag-off of the distribution of N1.2 billion cash donations and 100 trucks of rice to vulnerable persons across the 19 Northern states ahead of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
The intervention was organised by the office of Oluremi Tinubu in collaboration with the office of the Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Kabiru Masari.
Governor Buni said President Tinubu had consistently supported Northern presidential candidates over the years and deserved similar backing from the region.

“In 1992, President Tinubu supported late Shehu Yar’Adua against his fellow southern Yoruba kinsman, Olu Falae,” he said.
“In 2007, President Tinubu also supported Atiku Abubakar in his presidential ambition.
“He equally supported late Muhammadu Buhari in 2015, and therefore deserves support from the North for his second term of office,” the governor added.
The statement was signed by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor.
