Prelate Methodist Church Nigeria His Eminence Samuel Uche Kalu has dismissed speculation that there was an agenda to Islamize the country.

He said it was practically untenable to “Islamise or Christianise” Nigeria and that an attempt to enforce that will be crushed.
Kalu, who stated this at a press conference shortly after his tour of the apostolic church in Umuahia said that Nigeria was a secular nation and that every Nigerian should be free to worship and belong to any religion of their choice.
He said that what the country needed as a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and multi-religious country, “is a mature leader not a bigot.”
On a call by IPOB Leader Nnamdi Kanu for Ndigbo to boycott 2019 elections, the cleric said, “I do not like the idea of Ndigbo boycotting the general election, Boycotting the elections would amount to shooting ourselves in the foot.
“Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Independently People of Biafra (IPOB), has called on Ndigbo to boycott the elections as part of the agitation toward the realisation of the Republic of Biafra”.
He said that if Ndigbo boycotted the elections, other sections of Nigeria would go ahead to elect leaders for the country during the polls, urging the political class to promote things that would help to unite the country.
On the 2019 elections paper, he appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct credible, free and fair poll. “INEC must ensure fairness in the conduct of the elections. Let the best candidate win, irrespective of his or her political party,” he said.
