The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Kano State Council has commended the state governor, Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for honoring his commitment to implementing the new ₦71,000 minimum wage for workers in the state.
However, the state NLC chairman, Alhaji Kabir Inuwa, in a statement made available to the press in Kano, said this milestone decision signifies a pivotal step towards enhancing the welfare and living standards of Kano State’s workforce.
The labor union then lauded the governor’s dedication to fair compensation, highlighting that the move not only acknowledges the contributions of the labor force but also underscores the government’s focus on fostering productivity and economic growth.
The council described the governor as “Comrade Workers and Pensioners Friendly,” praising his leadership during challenging times and his prioritization of workers’ welfare.
He emphasized that the implementation of the new minimum wage is expected to uplift workers’ morale, increase local spending, and spur economic development across the state.
The NLC assured the government of the workers’ commitment to reciprocate with hard work, efficiency, and dedication, aligning with Kano State’s public service standards.
However, the NLC called on the governor to consider revising the minimum pension to align with the new wage structure, ensuring pensioners also benefit from his administration’s magnanimity.
The council expressed optimism about continued collaboration with the government to uphold workers’ rights and welfare while fostering harmonious labor relations.
The union then called for all workers to sustain their dedication to duty, as this gesture exemplifies a shared commitment to the prosperity of Kano State.
It will be recalled that just about three weeks after receiving the Committee’s report for the review of the new minimum wage, and the subsequent approval of ₦71,000, the Kano State Government commenced the implementation of the newly approved wages.
However, in keeping with the tradition of the state government to pay salaries and wages for its workers on the 25th of every month, Kano State workers began receiving their November salaries with the approved increment.
While commenting on the payment of the ₦71,000 new minimum wage, the Head of Civil Service, Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for making the governor fulfill his promise.

He further urged them to reciprocate the gesture by exhibiting hard work and fear of God in the discharge of their assignments, in order to fully justify what they are earning.
