The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, representing Niger State and a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has commended Nigerians for their steadfastness and loyalty to the nation, despite the current economic challenges facing the country.
In his Independence Day message marking Nigeria’s 64th anniversary, which was signed and released to the press in Kano on Monday, Senator Musa acknowledged the nation’s journey since independence and the spirit of unity and resilience displayed by Nigerians.
He stated, “Despite the modest successes recorded and the challenges faced since independence, Nigerians have remained committed to the task of building a better nation.”
The lawmaker encouraged citizens not to despair but to remain dedicated to charting a more progressive path for a brighter future, emphasizing that the anniversary offers an opportunity for reflection on Nigeria’s journey of nationhood.
“It is now 64 years since our dear country gained independence from Britain. This commemoration provides us with the chance to reflect on our journey, recognize our achievements, reassess the challenges we have overcome, and renew our hopes for a greater tomorrow,” he said.

Senator Musa acknowledged that while the country has experienced both progress and setbacks, patriotic Nigerians have always stood firm, sharing in the nation’s successes and feeling the pain of missed opportunities. He noted that any sense of disappointment, especially among the youth regarding unfulfilled aspirations, is understandable but should not lead to despair.
“Rather than losing hope, we should draw inspiration from the encouraging milestones that have set the tone for a promising future,” he urged.
He emphasized that Nigeria has survived a civil war, weathered economic downturns, and continues to face socio-political challenges with an indomitable spirit. This spirit, he said, has enabled the country to remain steadfast in the face of terrorism, insecurity, economic hardship, and the adverse effects of climate change.
Senator Musa also highlighted how this resilient spirit has propelled Nigerians to excel on the global stage in various fields, including sports, medicine, music, arts, technology, and education.
“As we celebrate another independence anniversary, we must channel our energy towards fostering equity, justice, peace, and national cohesion to realize Nigeria’s full potential and continue to serve as a beacon of hope and progress for all Africans,” he concluded.
