Members, Niger State House of Assembly have confirmed two Commissioner nominees whose names were forwarded in a letter sent to the House by the State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello last week.
The nominees were Mr Daniel H. Galadima, former federal civil servant and Muhammad Usman Tinau, the immediate past Director General, Niger State Pension Board.
The nominees had a smooth sail during the screening exercise, as both were asked to take a bow and leave.
After the first nominee, Mr Daniel Galadima, from Agwara Local Government Area of the state, gave a brief biography of himself, the member representing Katcha constituency, Hon. Yabagi Umar moved a motion that the nominee be allowed to take a bow and leave, arguing that, the fact that the State APC Chairman, Alhaji Zakari Jikantoro followed him (nominee) to the plenary for the screening, indicated that the he had what it takes to improve the economy of the state and the motion was seconded by member representing Agwara constituency, Hon Bello Ahmed.
While, Hon. Ahmed Marafa Guni, member representing Chanchaga constituency, equally moved a motion that the second nominee, Muhammad Usman Tinau be asked to take a bow and leave and was seconded by Hon. Mohammed Bashir Lokogoma, member representing Wushishi constituency.
When the Speaker, Rt. Hon Abdullahi Bawa Wuse put it to the House if it was okay to confirm both nominees as commissioners designate, it was unanimously voted yes.
Meanwhile, in an interview with newsmen after the screening exercise, the second Commissioner designate, Alhaji Muhammad Usman Tinau, declared that as a member of Niger State Executive Council, he would push for the budget envelope to be expanded to allow the people to function very well and effectively in order to achieve efficiency in the production output.
He said, “perhaps, that is one of the issues that will drive us to see that much is done within the little time we have.”
On the smooth sail given to them by the Law Makers, Tinau explained that the gesture showed the enormous respect members have for them, pointing out that as a result of his remarkable achievements in the public service, while thanking them for according him respect and easy passage during the screening exercise.
Also in a separate interview with the newsmen, Engr Daniel Galadima, the other Commissioner designate promised to bring his wealth of experience to bear.
He said the Abubakar Sani Bello-led administration in the state has barely over one year to vacate, adding that the time limit would not stop them from contributing to the development of the state and change the narrative for good.
