Niger APC guber aspirant donates relief items worth N27m to IDPs, party officials

A Niger State gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections, Alhaji Mohammed Idris Malagi, has donated grains and other items to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), as well as all party executives across the 25 local government areas of the state estimated at about N27 million.

The governorship hopeful, who is the Publisher and Chief  Executive Officer (CEO) of BluePrint newspapers, Abuja, was represented by the Coordinating Secretary, Malagi 2023 Gubernatorial Organisation, Bala Marka. He said that the food items include 1,750 bags of rice and maize as well as 50 king size oil of 50-litre jerrycans.

Marka handed over the items to the Niger State Government, represented by the Director-General, Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Malam Ahmed Ibrahim Inga for onward distribution to the IDP camps across about eight local government areas of the state.

Similarly, while presenting the items also to the State’s Executives of the APC at the state secretariat of the party in Minna on Tuesday he explained that the food items were to be distributed from wards, local governments up to the state level of the party, noting that the gesture was aimed at supporting the party members and to also cushion the effect of the current hardship being experienced during the ongoing Ramadan Fasting period in parts of the state by the Muslim faithfuls.

Giving the breakdown of the materials distributed, Marka noted that the IDPs got a total of 450 bags of rice, maize and millet of 150 each and 50 jerricans of 50 litres of vegetable oil while the APC executives got a total of 100 bags for state, 30 bags for the zonal, 250 bags to local councils and 1,370 bags for wards in addition to N1 million for transportation.

Responding, the state chairman of APC, Alhaji Haliru Zakari Jikantoro expressed appreciation to the governorship aspirant for always supporting the party and its members as well as the IDPs in the state especially in the past few years, saying, “one good turn deserves another,” adding that Malagi had earlier donated vehicles and funds worth several millions of Naira  to the party in the state.
