The Federal Government of Nigeria has organised a two-day training for Nutritional officers in Sokoto State in logistics onboarding into the Nigeria Health Logistics Management Information.
The two-day training tagged “On Nutrition Commodities Logistics on Boarding into the Nigerian Health Logistic Management Information System at the State level” organised by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in collaboration with Nutrition International was aimed at equipping the officers on some of the major benefits of the NHLMIS.
Speaking with newsmen, a data analyst with the Federal Ministry of Health, Adeoti Samuel, said one of the objectives of the training was to have accurate data records from every state on some of the support gotten from partners and federal government.
Adeoti who is from Nutrition Department in the ministry said the federal ministry discovered that overtime, there have not been accurate data records even though states across the country have been collecting support from foreign partners and federal government without any records to back it up.
He, however, the federal ministry deems it very apt to have data so as to have visibility on everything that is happening in the ministry.
He also emphasises the need to have accurate data related to the activities of nutrition at the state level in order to project and make a good decision on the limited resources.
“In the capacity of the Director of Nutrition, Dr Ladi Bako, who said she wanted this data to stay, not even after moving nutrition from a unit to now a department.
“Part of the function is to build the capacity of the people under, and this is why this training is coming up. There is still going to be a step-down, that will help the system and the people to know how to key into the NHLMIS.
“We have been going round the state to make sure that the people understand that they have to be reporting every detail of their report.
“The objective is to raise a pool of nutrition logistics managers that will translate this training to those at the local government levels.
“It will also help in having visibility support of equities in nutrition commodities through the help of National Product Supply Chain Management Programme (NPSCMP)
“It will also assist the health facilities to excel, the local government on how to keep records and relate with NHLMIS”
He said the beneficiaries of the two-day training are the vocal person, officer in charge, M &E, logistician, with the expectations that there will be a step down of the training by the participants at the local government level.
He however called on the participants to gain insight into the training on how to input the data and the knowledge behind the data input.
He said the minister is very keen on the data which is the reason why the whole ministry is committed to the training to be able to get accurate results.
