The Libra Advocacy for Development Organisation, LIADO, a non-governmental organisation advocating for justice, equity and transparency, has condemned the worsening insecurity across Nigeria, warning that terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and communal clashes now threaten national unity and development.

In a press statement signed and made available to Nigerian Tribune LIADO said the persistent rise in violent crimes has led to loss of lives, destruction of livelihoods and displacement of communities.

“It is alarming that many innocent Nigerians continue to lose their lives, livelihoods, and properties due to persistent security challenges. Communities are being displaced, businesses are suffering, agricultural activities are disrupted, and citizens are increasingly living in fear,” the organisation stated.

LIADO said the situation had undermined national development and weakened public confidence in the safety and stability of the country.

Calling for urgent action, the group urged security agencies and government authorities at all levels to intensify efforts at addressing the root causes of insecurity through stronger intelligence gathering, community policing and rapid response mechanisms.

LIADO also charged political leaders, traditional rulers, religious institutions, civil society organisations and community stakeholders to work together in fostering peace, dialogue and social cohesion.

“Security should not be viewed solely as the responsibility of government agencies; it requires collective action and active participation from all citizens,” the statement added.

To tackle the socio-economic drivers of crime, LIADO further called for increased investment in youth empowerment, education, job creation and social welfare programmes.

While acknowledging the sacrifices of security personnel, the organisation urged them to remain professional, proactive and dedicated to protecting lives and property.

“Nigeria belongs to all of us. We must unite across ethnic, religious, and political divides to confront insecurity and build a peaceful, prosperous, and secure nation for present and future generations,” LIADO said.

The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for policies and initiatives that promote peace, justice, security and sustainable development nationwide.
