IN a bid to equip its key human interfacing personnel with the skills to manage the public effectively through emotional intelligence, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has announced plans to put together emotional intelligence capacity training for its personnel.

Speaking when he received a delegation from the Global Transport Policy, who paid him a courtesy visit, the Acting Director General of NCAA, Captain Chris Najomo stressed that emotional regulation capacityis crucialfor effective teamwork in the aviation industry.

Najomo emphasised that good working relationships, based on trust and collaboration, are essential for smooth operations and the safety of passengers. The training will help participants develop competencies in emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills, focusing on emotional self-awareness and self-regulation, giving empathetic feedback, and asserting authority in a calm and professional manner.

The DG, who was represented by the Lagos Regional Manager, NCAA, Barrister Bukola Teriba, promised that the regulatory body will continue to equip key personnel with essential emotional intelligence competencies in the industry to enable the handling of emotional regulation in high pressure situations, assertiveness in conflict scenarios, and the ability to take another person’s perspective in negotiating for agreement.”

His words: “The NCAA, as the apex regulatory body in the aviation sector, recognizes the need to stay ahead in its role, and the training series is expected to play a crucial part in achieving this goal. By equipping its personnel with emotional intelligence skills, the NCAA will be better positioned to handle the complexities of human interaction, leading to improved service delivery and a more positive experience for the traveling public.”

In his comments, the Managing Director/Chief Consultant of Global Transport Policy, Dr Segun Musa, who presented an award to the Acting DG, NCAA, forkey reforms he has carried out since assumption of office, described the training series as part of Global Transport Policy’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, demonstrating the firm’s commitment to giving back to the industry.

Musa encouraged Najomo to continue his good work adding, “The award is a testament to Capt. his commitment to excellence and his tireless efforts to drive positive change in the aviation sector.”
