The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has expressed excitement over the “monumental” decision to convert Tai Solarin University of Education into a Federal University of Education, extending its heartfelt commendation to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
NANS National Public Relations Officer, Samason Ajasa Adeyemi, in a statement on Monday in Abuja, said the transformative step marks a significant milestone in the advancement of education in Nigeria and underscores the unwavering commitment of both leaders to the empowerment of Nigerian students.
Adeyemi noted that TASUED, established in 2005 as Nigeria’s first specialised university of education, has long been a beacon of academic excellence and a hub for nurturing future educators.
He added that the transition of TASUED to a federal institution not only elevates its status but also ensures greater access to resources, improved infrastructure, and enhanced academic opportunities for students across the nation.
“President Tinubu’s approval of this upgrade is a testament to his dedication to strengthening teacher education and improving the quality of instruction at all levels.
“By taking this bold step, the Federal Government reaffirms its commitment to investing in the future of Nigerian youth and addressing the critical need for well-trained educators in our society.
“Governor Abiodun’s visionary leadership and proactive efforts in inviting the Federal Government to take over TASUED deserve special recognition.
“His administration’s focus on education as a cornerstone for development has set a remarkable example for other states to follow.
“NANS believes that this upgrade will not only benefit the students of TASUED but also contribute significantly to the overall development of the education sector in Nigeria.
“We urge all stakeholders, including the Federal Government, Ogun State Government, and the university administration, to work collaboratively to ensure a seamless transition and the continued growth of TASUED as a Federal University of Education.
“As the voice of Nigerian students, NANS remains committed to advocating for policies and initiatives that prioritise education and the welfare of students.
“We celebrate this historic achievement and look forward to witnessing the positive impact it will have on the lives of students and the future of our nation,” the statement said.
