NACHON chairman mourns 16 travellers killed in Edo

The Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Professor Abdullahi Sale, has expressed sadness over the killing of 16 travelers in Uromi, Edo State. He described the gruesome killing as barbaric and perpetrated by enemies of progress.

He, therefore, said, “I commend the President for directing a manhunt for the perpetrators. I learned that following the President’s directive, fourteen suspects have been arrested.”

At this juncture, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu deserves commendation from all Nigerians for his prompt response to this dastardly act. It is a clear example of exemplary leadership and his dedication to the nation’s advancement.

The NAHCON Chairman then condoled with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the families of the victims, and all Nigerians.

He emphasized the need for Nigerians to embrace one another as brothers and sisters for national development, stating that the protection of innocent lives in all parts of the country remains paramount.

According to him, “I was saddened to hear the report of the killing of 16 travelers by a mob on March 27, 2025, in the Undune Efandion Community of Uromi in Edo State.”

Professor Sale also emphasized that “Nigeria is a diverse country. It is high time we embraced each other as brothers and sisters. It is only in this way that the country can reach the promised land.”

He further stated, “In this trying time for the families of those killed, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and all Nigerians, I extend my condolences over this very sad incident.”

Professor Sale then called on Nigerians to use the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr to demonstrate sacrifice, love, and peace.

“I also wish His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, long life, prosperity, and Allah’s guidance. In this blessed month of Ramadan, we pray to Allah the Almighty to bless your reform agenda and to continue to give you the courage to deliver.”

“May Allah the Almighty grant those who lost their lives in the attack Jannatul Firdaus and comfort their families. Amin.”

Meanwhile, the NAHCON Chairman stated that the commission is fully committed and prepared to ensure a hitch-free Hajj in 2025.

According to him, the commission had assessed the preparedness of key Hajj service providers during a recent visit to Saudi Arabia.

“We are putting arrangements in place to ensure that every Nigerian pilgrim receives efficient services throughout the 2025 Hajj period. All the materials designed for the use of Nigerian pilgrims during their stay in the Holy City were showcased during our visit,” he said.

Professor Sale, however, hinted that, “I have to use this opportunity to reassure Nigerians, especially the intending pilgrims, that NAHCON will not let them down. We are fully committed to discharging our duties.

“I also commend Vice President Kashim Shettima for all the support and guidance he has been giving to NAHCON.”

He further stated that they are determined to ensure that this year’s Hajj operation would be a force to be reckoned with, as they are taking all necessary steps to ensure its success. He added, “Insha Allah, and with the collective support of all stakeholders, it will be successful.”
