The Bauchi State chapter of the opposition Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has called for a transparent and thorough investigation into the alleged ₦70bn fraud in Bauchi State, which led to the arrest of the Accountant General, Sirajo Muhammad Jaja, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In a statement signed and issued by the State Secretary, Comr. Abdullahi M. Gamawa, the ZLP also demanded that all findings be made public immediately for the people of the state to see.
For the sake of accountability, the ZLP is calling for immediate action to be taken against any individuals or groups found to be involved in wrongdoing.
The party further demands justice for the people of Bauchi State, “who have the right to know how their resources are being managed.”
The Secretary emphasised, “The ZLP is calling for transparency and accountability regarding the alleged ₦70bn fraud involving the Bauchi State Accountant General and State Government.”
According to him, “As a party committed to the corporate existence of Bauchi State and the well-being of its citizens, we urge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Bauchi State Government to clarify their roles and responsibilities in this matter.”
“While the people of Bauchi State struggle to access basic necessities, including delayed or unpaid salaries and limited welfare services, we demand to know how ₦70bn went missing under the watch of the state government,” he added.
The ZLP State Secretary stressed, “As a party, we are committed to upholding democratic principles and promoting stable, inclusive governance. We will continue to advocate for transparency, accountability, and justice in all aspects of government, especially in Bauchi State.”
