A Magistrate Court sitting in Akure, Ondo State capital, has ordered the remand of a 23-year-old barber, Victor Akinwa, to the Olokuta Correctional Centre for allegedly killing his father with a pestle.
The accused was said to have committed the offence at about 1:30 pm, on November 20, 2022, at Basic Road Idanre in the Ondo State Magisterial District.
According to the Police prosecutor, Obadasa Ajiboye, who told the court that the suspect hit his father, Justus Akinwa, with a pestle on his head and resulted in his death.
Obadasa said the offences contravene Sections 316 and 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The plea of the defendant was, however not taken.
Obadasa, in an oral application, urged the court to remand the suspect to Correctional Centre pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Presiding Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, however, remanded the suspect to the Olokuta Correctional Centre, pending the outcome of advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions, (DPP) and adjourned the case to March 31, 2022, for mentioning.
