The Executive Assistant to Governor Seyi Makinde on Project Monitoring, Mr. Muftau Open Salawu, through the Open Integration of Learning (OIL) Foundation, has renewed scholarships for indigent students of Ogbomosoland.
The scholarship covers the secondary to tertiary level of their education.
Recall that Salawu had last year offered scholarships to 20 indigent students from JSS1, who were picked from Ogbomoso North, South, and Oriire Federal Constituency.
Speaking at the 7th edition of the Open Integration of Learning Foundation Life Line Scholarship award held in Ogbomoso, Open Salawu, who was represented by Hon. Isaac Olajide at the program, reiterated his commitment to advancing education in Ogbomoso land.
He emphasised that every child should have access to education in order to realise their potential and that education is the cornerstone upon which we build our future.
He encouraged the beneficiaries to take their studies seriously and make the most of the opportunities available to them.
In his remark, the Waziri Jari of Nupe Kingdom urged the scholarship recipients to stand out in their endeavours and be good community ambassadors.
He called for the support of the management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, and Federal Polytechnic Ayede to assist the foundation in the area of admission for the beneficiaries.
He said, “Today we all gathered here to grant the 7th scholarship to these wonderful children from our community.
“It is a great pleasure to do this act and to encourage many more to surpass this gesture. It might look very little, but it could go a long way in the lives of the beneficiaries, and it has created a mentoring platform for them.
“We intend to continue this act, which we started since 2018, and it is our prayer that all of the selected 20 students will graduate in their choice of studies and be useful to themselves, their parents, and society at large.
“So, we employ all leaders of higher institutions that are invited and those that are here today to join us in fulfilling the dream and aspiration of intention to guide and support these 20 wonderful sons and daughters of our great community.
“Also, the beneficiaries should see this as a loan and challenge from the community to them to become successful in life and be able to replicate this and more in the future. With this kind of chain support, we can guarantee a better future for our community.
In their separate remarks, traditional rulers, clergymen, party faithful, and well-wishers at the ceremony all commended Salawu for his gesture to the needy.
They equally advised the beneficiaries to maximise the opportunity for their own good, noting that many may not have such privilege.
One of the beneficiaries who spoke to journalists expressed appreciation to Open Salawu for the kind gesture.
