Lead City University gets NUC’s nod to run PhD programmes

LEAD City University (LCU), Ibadan, Oyo State, has got the approval of the National Universities Commission to run new courses up to PhD level.

The vice chancellor of the institution, Professor Aderemi Adeyemo, gave the hint in his address during the just concluded 11th convocation ceremony of the university in Ibadan.

Professor Adeyemo said that the university got five new courses accredited at the Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) and M.Sc levels; namely, Master of Business Administration (MBA), Accounting, Banking and Finance, and PGD in Hospital Services Administration; and at the PhD level, Accounting, Economics, Public Administration and Business Administration.

Listing the progress and achievements of the institution, the vice chancellor stated that the university’s inaugural lectures since 2012 had reached 10, while significant printed materials were added to the library to provide access to at least two current foreign journal titles for each programme in the university.

He also noted that the university had developed a framework for continuous quality management and control, as more staff members were engaged to meet the academic requirements.

According to Professor Adeyemo, this year, a total of 838 students were awarded various categories of degrees and diplomas, with a total of 41 graduating with First Class honours; 295 with upper credit, 417 with second class and 15 in the third class category.

He charged the granduands to be good ambassadors of the university anywhere they the found themselves and stick to its values, which include self-reliance, excellence, self-confidence, honesty and self independence.

At the event, an honorary Doctor of Governance and Public Administration was conferred on Honourable Tamarautare Brisibe in recognition of his immerse contribution in the area of public service, particularly in co-sponsoring and modifying the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry content Development Bill during his service as a member of the House of representatives and now as Chief of Staff of the government of Delta State.
