The Lagos State University(LASU) Ojo, on Thursday, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Triune Biblical University (TBU) Global Extension, USA, to jointly train students on courses and programmes under the General Nigerian Studies centre of LASU.
By the partnership, LASU would teach and access students of TBU in Nigeria in four courses under GNS including the Use of English, the Use of Library, the History of Lagos and one other course.
The MoU was signed by the Acting Vice-Chancellor of LASU, Prof Oyindamola Oke and the African Representative of TBU and Director of Studies, Dr Maurice Odiete, on behalf of both institutions respectively.
The signing ceremony took place at LASU with the Registrar of LASU, Mr Olayinka Amuni and the Director of Centre for General Nigerian Studies, LASU, Prof Biodun Akinpelu as well as the Legal Adviser to TBU, Dr Sam Bamgbose, among others, in attendance.
In his remark at the event, LASU acting VC, Prof Oke, said the collaboration is part of LASU drive for knowledge sharing and human capital development with other relevant institutions across the world.
According to him, LASU is aimed at leaving its current number two position to become the best university in Nigeria and one of the best in Africa in no distant time.
Prof Oke explained that LASU is frequently reviewing its curriculum to reflect the socio-economic needs of Nigeria and its people and Africa by extension.
He said LASU had now fully deployed electronic learning in most of its courses, especially where there is a large number of students including GNS.
In his own remarks, the African Representative of TBU, Dr Odiete, explained that partnership would further boost mass literacy in Nigeria.
He said TBU chose LASU for the partnership arrangement because of its rich in academic and research activities, noting that TBU has a similar arrangement with over 12 other universities in Africa including Kenya, South Africa, Togo and Uganda to mention but a few.
He said the cost implications of TBU programmes and courses to students in Africa is friendly.
