Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) has decried the activities of the land grabbers in some parts of the state, describing it as inimical to the Socio-economic growth.
A member of the Oyo State branch of the Association, Biyi Adesanya submitted that the state government has critical role to play in curbing their activities.
Adesanya who expressed the readiness of NIESV to collaborate with the government submitted that it would bring an end to issue of land grabbing in the state.
Nigerian Tribune recalls that the government has unfolded its plans to establish a taskforce dedicated to tackling land grabbing in line with its zero tolerance for land grabbing activities, including forceful entry, illegal occupation, and fraudulent practices.
Speaking in Ibadan at the recognition and awards ceremony of Hope Harriman Memorial Annual Secondary Schools Essay Competition, Adesanya, who was the Chief host of the event maintained that by working together, government and estate surveyors can create comprehensive solution to the issue.
According to him, effective collaboration will require open communication, mutual understanding, and a commitment to transparency.
He said with combined expertise of estate surveyors and the government’s dedication to combating land grabbing, Oyo State can make significant progress in addressing this persistent problem.
He stated that land grabbing has become rampant in Oyo State, particularly in Ibadan, where it has turned into a significant issue for the historic city.

He noted that his members can only do so much regarding land grabbing, emphasizing that, as a professional body, their role is primarily advisory in addressing this menace.
He expressed concern that the sale of land is often handled by non-professionals, which frequently leads to controversy and litigation.
“Government should always consult professionals when it come to issue of land and landed property, government should call for roundtable dialogue with our members on ways to curb land-grabbers across the state.”
In her speech, a lecturer at the Department of Estate Management, University of Ibadan, Dr. Adebola Adeyemo urged students at the event to invest in their future and allow passion and ability to guide their careers.
In his remark, Ex NIA President, Arch. Olatunji Bolu said there is need for more people to join estate management profession.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Education in Oyo State, Prof. Salihu Adelabu lauded organiser of the event, saying the event will guide secondary school students towards choosing a right path in their careers.
