FROM the positive signals emanating from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, especially on the performance of umrah (lesser hajj) and other hajj-related activities, there is a bright hope that the 2022 hajj exercise will hold.
The Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Mr Rahman Ishola, expressed the optimism recently when he led some members of the management staff of the board on a courtesy visit to the new General Manager of Radio Lagos/Eko FM, Mr Jide Lawal, in his office.
Noting that the COVID-19 pandemic had hindered the performance of hajj by international pilgrims for the past two years, Ishola said he had a positive feeling that hajj would hold next year.
Ishola said the purpose of the visit was to felicitate Mr Lawal on his recent appointment as the General Manager by the state governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and also to strengthen the relationship that had existed between the two organisations over the years.
He stressed that the relationship had assisted the board in achieving successes, adding that for five consecutive years, the board won merit awards from the Federal Government for its performance during hajj.
He sought the support of the GM in the area of sensitisation and adequate publicity for the board’s activities before and during the hajj exercise.
He also appreciated the immediate past General Manager, Mrs Ayo Sotanwa, for her moral support while in office.
In his response, Lawal expressed appreciation to the board’s management for finding time to rejoice with him over his appointment.
He pledged to continue from where his predecessor stopped and even improve on the existing barter arrangements between the two organisations so that the board, and the state government, could continue to excel in providing quality hajj service to intending pilgrims.
A highlight of the visit was a special prayer offered by the board’s Deputy Head of Operations, Imam Soliu Olohungbebe, for the GM to succeed in his assignment.
While urging the GM to ensure justice and equity in his dealings with members of staff, he appealed to the workers to support their new boss for the progress of the radio station.
