Managing Director, LAMATA, Engr. Abimbola Akiajo, has disclosed that the Lagos Blue Rail Line will commence commercial operation from Marina to Mile 2, on Monday, September 4, 2023.
Akiajo made this known on Wednesday, while addressing newsmen, saying that the inaugural operational ride would be performed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
According to her, the train will begin with 12 trips operation daily for the first two weeks for test-running but on full operation will run 76 trips from 5:30am daily till 10pm, carrying 175,000 passengers daily but quickly noted that passengers can only ride on the train using their cowry cards.
The LAMATA boss further said the train will only stop for 90 seconds at every station to drop and pick passengers.
Akiajo, while noting that the rail tracks had been electrified, warned Lagosians to stay clear of the tracks, adding that other measures to ensure safety include installation of 300 cameras at every station and on the tracks.
She, however, said that eating or drinking would not be allowed on the train in order to ensure sanity on it.
On the transport fare, Akiajo said each trip would cost N375 due to the present 50 per cent reduction In transport fare introduced by the governor, noting that it would, however, increase to N750 whenever the reduction is removed by the government.
