Lagos begins symbolic pupils’ enrollment for 2020/2021 session
THE Lagos State government has begun symbolic enrollment of pupils into early childhood care and development class in public schools in the state.
Chairman of the state’s Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr Wahab Alawiye-King, performed the symbolic registration as part of activities to mark this year’s Children’s Day celebrated globally last week.
He enrolled Master Erioluwa Makinde and some others ahead of the 2020/2021 academic session.
Alawiye-King at the event charged parents to invest well in their children’s education and spiritual rebirth, saying these would greatly aid their success in life.
He said the current situation that has kept children away from school and also prevented them from gathering to celebrate their day requires spiritual attention for normalcy to return.
“That is why Lagos SUBEB has decided to hold this special prayer session as a spiritual investment in the future of our children,” he noted.
While encouraging children to adhere to all given measures to stop the spread of COVID -19 such as physical distancing, wearing of face masks and personal hygiene, the SUBEB chief also advised them to take the ongoing e-lessons organised for them as they remain very seriously.
According to a statement by the board’s head of public affairs, Mrs Adewunmi Enitan, the SUBEB boss distributed various gift items to schoolchildren at the event.
In their separate remarks, the officiating clerics at the event, Dr Abdulgarfar Kukoyi and Dr. Felix Akinnusi, urged children to shun vices and be law-abiding and their parents to play their expected roles on them very well.
They said children’s training should not be left in the hands of schools and teachers alone.
