A Kogi state born Christian cleric, Pastor Adejola Babagbemi, has declared his intention to contest for Yagba federal constituency seat in the House of Representatives come 2027.
Speaking with journalists after meeting with stakeholders from the constituency in Abuja, Pastor Babagbemi described the current political moment as one that demands visionary leadership rooted in compassion, competence, and courage.
Babagbemi, who is also the convener of the GB IRORUN political movement, said that his aspiration is driven by commitment to people-oriented representation, inclusive governance, and advancement of socio-economic prosperity across Yagba land.
“I stand before you today not only to mark another year in my life, but to rededicate myself to a higher calling, the call to serve, to unite, and to lead our people into a new chapter of progress”, he said.
He described the current political moment as one that demands visionary leadership rooted in compassion, competence, and courage, adding that GB IRORUN is not just a slogan but a comprehensive agenda for reform and empowerment.
“My ambition is not about self or position; it is about the people. It is about farmers in Mopamuro, the traders in Yagba East, the students, and the elderly in Yagba West. It is about giving every Yagba son and daughter a fair voice and an open door”, he said.
Babagbemi, who said that he has been involved in grassroots advocacy, humanitarian service, and youth development, added that the GB IRORUN Movement will serve as a platform for mobilizing ideas, harnessing community strength, and building coalitions that prioritize equity and impact.
He also said that his experience in pastoral leadership, public and private sectors, civic engagement, and political mentorship has prepared him to navigate the national legislature with depth and direction.
“I believe in servant leadership, one that listens, one that learns, and one that leads from among, not above. The House of Representatives must be more than a title; it must be a tool for transformation,” he said.
The event, which marked unveiling of the movement and his birthday, drew a cross-section of supporters, political stakeholders, and allies who expressed solidarity with his vision and praised his record of service.
Pastor Babagbemi also called on all well-meaning Yagba constituents, irrespective of political affiliation, to join hands in building a constituency where justice, development, and hope are not seasonal promises but lived realities.
“Our tomorrow begins today. And together, we shall rise, with God, with grace, and with grit”, he said.
Also present at the event were former members of the House of Representatives for Yagba Federal Constituency, Hon. Tolorunju Joseph Faniyi and Hon. Aro Samuel Bamidele. A retired military officer and former member representing Mopamuro Constituency in the Kogi State House of Assembly, Commodore Folusho Daniel, was also in attendance.
