Kano govt to construct 130 new schools across state

Kano State Commissioner of Education, Dr Ali Haruna Makoda, has announced plans to construct 130 new schools across the state through the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project.

Makoda stated that the construction would include 75 Junior Secondary Schools and 55 Senior Secondary Schools across the state.

The Commissioner also highlighted the state government’s introduction of digital literacy programmes to ensure quality education in the state.

He lamented that the previous administration had neglected the education sub-sector, leaving behind dilapidated infrastructure, overcrowded classrooms, and an inadequate number of teachers.

The Commissioner therefore thanked the development partners for their immense contributions towards the progress of the state education sector, assuring that the present administration would continue to give them all the support needed to achieve the intended goals.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Director of Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Education, Kano State, Alhaji Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, a copy of which was made available to the press in Kano.

However, the statement reads that the Kano State Education Sector Joint Steering Committee has conducted a two-day meeting in Kaduna to review the 2025-2026 key education priorities.

The meeting, which commenced on Saturday 22nd to Sunday 23rd February 2025, aims to align these priorities with the state’s education strategic objectives to achieve better results.

Hon Makoda disclosed that the meeting was crucial in reviewing and approving key education priorities, validating work plans, and fostering collaboration among stakeholders.

He added that the committee discussed critical areas, including the Kano Education Recovery Plan and the implementation of the 14-point Agenda.

“This meeting serves as a place for cross-fertilisation of ideas, a place where new issues were raised and positive resolutions reached for effective education policy delivery,” he stated.
