Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar Namadi Danmodi, expressed concern over the truancy behaviour exhibited by permanent secretaries and other civil servants in the state.
During his unscheduled visit to the state secretariat, the governor spoke to the press about his disappointment with the high level of absenteeism among both senior and junior workers.
Governor Umar Namadi stated, “It is disappointing to see the majority of workers absent. I am truly unhappy with what I have witnessed. Both senior and junior workers are not reporting to work at this time. This is very bad.”
The governor emphasized that the state cannot progress with such an attitude and behaviour. He reminded everyone that nobody from outside Jigawa State will come and develop the state; it is the responsibility of the indigenes.
He urged the workers to remember their promise to work diligently and be dedicated when they accepted their appointments.
Malam Namadi called on the workers to change their behaviour for the betterment of the state and themselves.
Investigations by Tribune Online in the state revealed that the governor encountered only three permanent secretaries—those from the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Ministry of Education, and the Establishment and Labor Matters—and the Accountant General, along with a few directors.
Senior officers at the office of the Head of Civil Service, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that the governor instructed them to compile a list of absentees.
They stated, “As I am talking to you now, we are doing it. We are compiling the list of all permanent secretaries, directors, and other senior officers who were absent during his unscheduled visit to the state secretariat complex this afternoon.”
Tribune Online gathered that the governor visited the state secretariat at 11:30 am on Monday, going around the ministries and agencies in the complex until noon.
However, the number of workers present was limited, mostly comprising messengers, cleaners, and junior staff.
