The traditional ruler of Idjerhe kingdom, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, HRM Obukohwo Monday Arthur Whiskey, the Udurhie 1, has not been deposed.
The clarification was made on Wednesday at a press conference held at the monarch’s palace in Jesse by the Publicity Committee Chairman of Idjerhe kingdom in charge of the first year coronation anniversary, Okakuro Onosia James Obriki.
Obriki, who debunked the rumour doing the round that the king has been dethroned, stated that the kingdom has been benefitting from the enthronement of the monarch since his inauguration a year ago.
Addressing journalists, Obriki, who was flanked by other chiefs of the kingdom, said a recent court ruling being lashed on by critics to conclude that the monarch has been dethroned was untrue.
“I congratulate His Royal Majesty, King Obukohwo Monday Arthur Whiskey “Udurhie 1” on his one-year coronation anniversary on ascending the throne of his forefathers.
“The enthronement of our king as the traditional head of the kingdom has brought enormous blessings to all our people and a new sense of direction that is propelling the Kingdom to greater heights.
“Coming to the issues of people making careless statements about the court ruling on a motion of 14th October 2021, I want to say that our king has not been removed as the king of Idjerhe Kingdom.
“The king is in his palace and has been receiving visitors and indigenes of the Kingdom trooping in and out of the palace.
“The court ruling recently does not, in any way, stop the coronation anniversary celebration from taking place.
“Like I always say, the ship must sail and reach its destination without problems.
“I want to assure the people of Idjerhe Kingdom and outside that, there is no problem whatsoever with the kingship in Idjerhe Kingdom.
“Everything is in order. I thank you all for the confidence you have in our King,” he enthused.
According to him, within one year of his enthronement, HRM Whiskey has fought against notable challenges among which are senseless acts of crime, cultism, and cybercrime.
“He has, among other things, repositioned our great kingdom to be known among oil-producing communities in Nigeria,” he noted.
He disclosed that the one-year anniversary of the journalist-turned monarch commences Friday 22nd October, 2021 with a carnival/procession and paying of homage by indigenes and non-indigenes at the Ovie palace Otortor-Idjerhe.
According to him, installation of chieftaincy title on befitting indigenes and non-indigenes will follow on Saturday, 23rd 2021, while on Sunday 24th October, 2021, the Thanksgiving Services will hold at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Otorho-Idjerhe, followed by a reception at Idjerhe Grammar School playground at 10:00 am.
