EMINENT Nigerians including a former governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande; a founding member of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, and Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, will on Saturday, March 25, 2017, converge on Benin City to honour one of the nation’s nationalists, late Chief Anthony Enahoro.
The event will witness a lecture entitled, “Immortalizing our Heroes Past: Nigerian nationalists in Focus” to be delivered by the Esogban of Benin, Chief David Edebiri,
Others expected at the occasion are national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Bola Tinubu, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, immediate past governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole; Senator Nosike Ikpo.
The honour being bestowed on Chief Enahoro and is being sponsored by the Castle of Legends Initiative led by Chief David Edebiri.
A statute of the late Enahoro at the Edinburgh States House of Assembly complex is expected to be unveiled during the event. The status of Chief Enahoro at the ground of the Edo state House of Assembly.
Addressing journalists in Benin City, Chief Edebiri, explained that the Castle of Legend Initiative is a group which was formed to pick forgotten nationalists.
He said, “We identify them and honour them because it is sad that a lot of our great men and women who contributed heavily to the growth of this nation have been forgotten.
“So in the maiden edition of this event, we will be immortalizing Chief Enahoro while awards will also be given to Alhaji Jakande, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, Alhaji Yakassai and Senator Nosike Ikpo.
“These (men) are great men of this nation and somehow they have been forgotten and it is not good.
“For a nation to grow, it must learn know how to immortalize or honour her heroes and that is what is lacking in this country.
“So we carefully selected these people due to their contributions to this nation. They are old now but we are happy that they are still alive to be celebrated.”
