THE stage is now fully set for the formal detection of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2016 Edo State governorship election to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his loyalists.
The ceremony which is scheduled to take place today in the Edo State capital of Benin City will finally put an end to speculations as regards the political direction of the former South-South zonal vice-chairman of the ruling party.
Ize-Iyamu explained in Benin yesterday that the defection which he insisted was home-coming was delayed as he had to consult and hold series of meetings with his loyalists many of whom have expressed concerns about the disarray within the ranks of the main opposition party.

He said that he had done his best to reconcile the warring parties within the PDP without success, hence his decision to leave the party and join the APC.
He said: “It is true that I am leaving the PDP for the APC. I am quitting the PDP because of the too many problems bedevilling the party which I have tried in my own way to resolve without success. It is not a rumour, I am going back home to APC.”
It will be recalled that the Edo State branch of the PDP had last week responded to the speculations of Ize-Iyamu’s defection by taking steps to exclude him from all PDP related activities in the state.
