I am a fan of your column; ASK THE DOCTOR
My girlfriend and I had unprotected sex but she took the emergency contraceptive, prostinor 1. On July 3, she travelled back to school. However, she called me last week that she is yet to see her period. We went for an ultrasound scan and the result showed that she is 7 weeks and 4 days pregnant. What is the best way to calculate LMP? I also want to know if I am really responsible for the pregnancy or otherwise.

Having unprotected sex has many negative consequences. Apart from the possibilities of catching an infection, an unwanted pregnancy just as you now have is another problem. LMP means Last Menstrual Period and it is the last day of a woman’s menstrual flow. Your ownership of the pregnancy or otherwise can only be determined after the baby is delivered and a paternity test is carried out.
