The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has organised a security meeting involving the 83 districts heads in the state.
The meeting which is holding behind closed doors at the Sultan Palace in Sokoto metropolis is expected to address some security challenges being experienced in the state.
A source within the palace who spoke with our correspondent revealed that it is not clear if the outcome of the meeting will be made public. The source, however, said that all the districts heads are present in the all-important meeting.
It will be recalled that Sokoto State, one of the states in the North-West geopolitical zone of the country currently battling the challenges of banditry, kidnap for ransom, cattle rustling and other criminals activities especially in the Eastern Senatorial District of the state.
Within the period of the ongoing insecurity in Zamfara State, some communities within the state have been attacked by marauding bandits.
No fewer than six persons were reportedly killed in Lambar Tureta, in Tureta local government last week Wednesday with an unspecified number of persons abducted by suspected bandits in the attack.
There is also a fear among residents of the state as reported by one of the national dailies on Tuesday which indicated that some of the armed bandits operating in Zamfara are relocating to some communities in Sokoto State.
The media report (not Tribune) quoted a member of the dreaded bandits mentioning two Sokoto communities of Kebe and Tureta in the state southern Senatorial District of the state.
Recalled that last week Saturday, four communities in Dange/Shuni local government area reportedly received a letter of threat from suspected bandits.
The state police command said it has arrested four suspects in connection to that letter while urging residents in the affected communities go about with their normal business.
