The lawmaker representing Okitipupa/Irele Federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Hon. Mike Omogbehin on Tuesday, said the House Committee on National Security and Intelligence will investigate the involvement of National Intelligence Agency (NIA) in the recovered N13 billion by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Lagos State.
Omogbehin, who is a member of Committee on National Security and Intelligence in the National Assembly, stated this in Idepe, in Okay local government area of the state, after presenting annual bursary and empowerment items worth millions of Naira to the people of his constituency.
He expressed surprise over the discovery of the huge amount of money by EFCC without the owners of the money coming to lay claim to the money.
Omogbehin however lamented that the anti-corruption war of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has failed to achieve its main objective saying it was being used against opposition members in the country.
“Buhari’s administration has lost it, it has no war in place against corruption, what we have in place is witch hunting. It is very clear from what has been happening.”
“They have been telling us they see money planted in airport, we have another in Balogun, is money that cheap? Are we fools? We know what is happening.”
“People are trying to sell candidate that has been rejected through security report made available to us and they are doing everything possible to dirty other people so that they can achieve their aim.”
“Nigeria’s parliament will continue to say no to such inducement and pressure. The recent issue about American dollars, we are not talking about Yen or Naira. How can such money be kept in a place and the EFCC say there is a whistle blower.”
“Who is the whistle blower? How did the whistle blower know about the money? He knows the location and does not know the owner of the money.”
The lawmaker elected on the platform of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) said “there is no anti-corruption war going on in the country, the war we have in Nigeria is the war by APC at targeted enemies.”
“You can only be corrupt when you are not member of APC. All members of the opposition are corrupt. To say there is anti-corruption war in Nigeria is an attempt to put wools in our eyes.”
He assured the people that the National Assembly on resumption would look into the involvement of NIA in the recent recovered loot saga.
The lawmaker however gave 230 students bursary award scheme, and commissioned a library fully-equipped with books in Idepe High school Okitipupa, while he also donated two well-equipped medical ambulances to the Departments of Primary Health Care in Okitipupa and Irele Local Governments.
Omogbehin also distributed empowerment items like generators, motorcycles, sewing machine, hand-held scanning machine, and grinding machine to his constituents to raise their economic well-being at this time of economic recession.
