It was a marriage of Ika and Itsekiri culture, demonstrated at the palace of the traditional ruler of Owa kingdom in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State, Obi Emmanuel Efeziomor II, when the newly-crowned Olu of Warri, His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli Atuwatse III visited.
The visit was Atuwatse III’s first official function away from his kingdom since his coronation on August 21.
Obi Efeizomor II had received the Itsekiri traditional ruler, who arrived in a retinue of chiefs in a unique way peculiar to royalties, and later led him to the palace hall, where the atmosphere was charged with eulogies for the royal fathers.
The event featured a presentation of gifts to the Olu of Warri.
In his remarks, Ogiame Atuwatse III said he was in Owa Kingdom to show solidarity and support to Obi of Owa and Chairman, Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers.
The king pledged his administration’s preparedness to partner and work with the Delta State Council of Traditional Rulers in the forthcoming periods.
He expressed satisfaction with the leadership style of the Delta State governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and said he would do everything to ensure the administration finishes strong on its set agenda in the state.
He said the visit also forms part of his official tour outside his kingdom since his coronation on August 21.
“Today is our first official outing outside the palace. We have visited Governor Okowa. We have also visited the Asagba of Asaba. We felt this is a good opportunity to come to Owa to see you not only as the father of the governor, but also as the Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers in the state.
“Let it be on record that we are pledging our support for the traditional rulers and the council. We are also pledging our support and prayers for the state government to ensure it finishes well. This is the line we are toeing,” the Olu of Warri said.
In his remarks, the Obi of Owa urged the new Olu of Warri to be magnanimous in victory accommodate everybody.
He also called on the people of Warri Kingdom to give their maximum support for the peace, progress and development of the kingdom.
“Olu has taken positive steps. We are all happy with him. We have more to gain when there is peace and tranquility in Warri Kingdom. I have more to gain when I see him (Olu) make progress, I wish him well. I pray for him, I want the kingdom to continue to make progress.”
The Obi of Owa also warned that anybody who wanted to set the traditional institution in Delta State apart would be resisted, adding that nobody should support such a person because no traditional ruler would have crisis in his territory and feel comfortable.”
