Governor Emmanuel and other chieftains of the party in Akwa Ibom State belong to the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led faction.
Speaking in Uyo, the state capital, the governor said that it was time for the PDP faithful to rally round the party in prayers and solidarity support towards ensuring the former ruling party regained its consciousness and stability to face future polls.
He lauded the party for giving fame and fortune, adding that he would work with committed members to rebuild the party, as well as chart a winning formula that would ensure that the PDP reclaimed leadership position in the country.
According to him, the issues at stake at the Supreme Court was not whether the PDP should continue to exist as a political party, but a purely internal leadership matter that would drive the party into extinction.
Describing the PDP as a truly people-oriented party connected to the grassroots, the governor noted that no genuine member of the party would defect just because of the internal feud that could be resolved in due time.
“Personally, it is unthinkable that somebody like me, having benefitted immensely, would quit just because of internal disagreement that could still be resolved, no matter how long it takes”, the governor said.
“Regardless of who wins, we will stay to build the PDP; the name PDP remains. I am PDP and PDP is in my blood. Anywhere the judgment goes, I remain in PDP. Nobody is going anywhere, all those going are looking for negotiation and we are ready to negotiate with them.
“I want a situation whereby people would see my children tomorrow and say you are the family of PDP. Only the greedy people are jumping ship. The Supreme Court judgment won’t change the name of our party. PDP will continue to stand on the vision and mission it was founded; we will build the PDP”, he added.
