Chief George made the clarification on Monday at a public discussion titled, “Nation Building: Resetting Agenda,” organised by the party in Abuja.
The one-time military governor of the old Ondo State also pledged his loyalty to the National Chairman of the PDP, Prince Uche Secondus and members of the National Working Committee of the party.
After Chief George lost the national chairmanship of the opposition PDP to Secondus at the party’s national convention in December last year, there were insinuations that he might be quitting the party in anger for any other political party with his supporters
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief George who received a standing ovation from the gathering said, “today’s event rekindled my absolute loyalty to you. I want to assure members of the National Working Committee of my absolute loyalty and I pray that God will grant you wisdom to lead the party because I believe that we don’t have a second chance to make the first impression.
“The rest of the world is watching us, after the convention, this is our first outing because it looks as if we have taken an overdose of sleeping tablet.
“This is a period of elections, let the people know the difference that this is a party with experience.
“To err is human, to forgive is divine. You (Secondus) have done the talk, let our people go and work the talk.
We will ensure that that will be the message we will carry to the local leaders.
“All our founding fathers should come back and unite with the party. Some of them have gone to the wilderness,” he said.
Former Vice Presidents, Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo, former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, former governors of Niger, Katsina and Anambra State, were some of the party leaders who attended the occasion.
