How safe is tonsillectomy?

My 15-year-old daughter has been asked to surgically remove her tonsils because of a recurrent episode of sore throat. I am, however, afraid of the operation. Kindly advise.

Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy are among the most common surgical procedures young people undergo worldwide. The biggest indications for the surgery are recurrent sore throat and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). When carried out in a well-equipped hospital and by competent hands, the surgery is very safe.
