Gombe State has been charged to as a matter of necessity enrol sickle cell clients in the state in its Contributory Health Agency (Go-Health ) scheme as those who are to benefit from it.
The charge was made by Stakeholders in the state health sector during a one-day stakeholders engagement and dialogue organized by Rural Health Mission a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in commemoration of the 2021 Universal Health Coverage.
According to the stakeholders, enrollment of sickle cell clients will go a long way in assisting them to get their drugs at affordable prices as well as get regular medical attention.
The stakeholders though commended the state government for the introduction of the Go-Health programme and urged it to redouble efforts towards effective financing of healthcare services in the state.
Mal Mohammed Adamu who is the Programme Manager of Rural Health Mission Nigeria said that the programme was aimed at providing a friendly platform for policymakers and civil society organizations to identify opportunities for advocacy and collaboration in order to advance universal coverage toward achieving SDGs 2030 in Gombe state and the country at large.
He further said that the meeting would also identify critical challenges and urgent steps to improve Universal Health Coverage in the state.
The programme Manager added that the event was supported by Gem Hub Initiative; WACI Health; GFAN -Africa and JAAids .
He added that the theme of this year’s commemoration is ‘Leave No One’s Health Behind: Invest in Health System for all.
Dr Musa Yahaya, Executive Secretary of Go-Health said that the Agency was created in line with the universal standard to assist the public in accessing affordable healthcare services delivery.
He said that the Agency is Planing to register people from the informal sector apart from those that were registered from the formal sector.
Also speaking, Alhaji Mohammed Magaji, Commissioner of Finance represented by Malam Yusuf Kwami a staff of the Ministry said that Plans are underway to release counterpart funding for various health projects in the state.
Dr Isiayaku Mohammed, Special Adviser on Budget Planning and Donor Agencies promised stronger synergy with donor Agencies working in all sectors especially health and education.
