A Yoruba socio-cultural youth group, Alliance of Yoruba Youths Council Worldwide (AYYCW), has called for the speedy grading and upgrading of traditional rulers of Jebba and Shao in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Speaking through the National Publicity Secretary of the group, Oladipo Gbeminiyi Seyi and signed by the National President, Dr Akande Babatunde and Secretary, Adegunju Omotayo, the group condemned what it saw as a deliberate alienation and subjugation of the Yoruba speaking tribe of the state.
“The Ohoro of Shao, HRH Oba (Dr) Bamidele Adegbite and the Oba of Jebba, HRH Alhaji Abdulquadir Adebara are men of tested integrity with vast experience who requires no introduction as far as Kwara State Traditional Council is concerned. We, therefore, see no reason why the two Traditional Rulers will not be recognized, graded and upgraded,” the statement reads.
According to the statement, the two traditional councils had last been graded in 1919 during the colonial era by colonial masters, adding that it was also graded during the administration of some former governors of the state including former governor Adamu Attah in 1983 and former governor Alabi Muh Lawal in 2002.
“Going through memory lane, these two traditional councils had already been graded in 1919 alongside other Traditional Councils in the state by the then Colonial Masters. Former Governor Adamu Attah also graded them in 1983 while Former Governor Alabi Muh Lawal regraded them in 2002. It was the government of former Governor Bukola Saraki that revoked this grading in 2003 for no justifiable reason.
“We, therefore, appeal to Governor AbdulRalman AbdulRazaq to as a matter of urgency regrade these two traditional rulers after 17 years of neglect by the previous government.
“We also call on all Yoruba sons and daughters home and abroad, all Yoruba traditional rulers and the entire Yoruba nation to prevail on the AbdulRalman led administration for prompt action”, the group said.
