Abia State governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, said the establishment of the Teachers Professional Development Centre (TPDC) by the Delta State government is beyond pedestrian governance as many may not be able to understand what it takes to do the unusual.
Speaking during the Inauguration of the centre at Owa Oyibu in Ika North East LGA of the State, on Tuesday, Dr Ikpeazu commended the vision for establishing the centre which he said would help to promote education in and beyond the state.
According to him, the infrastructure has revealed so much of Gov Ifeanyi Okowa in the education sector especially in the development of children, teachers, curriculum and environment.
He said after seeing the infrastructural development of the centre,” I am almost tempted to duff my cap for Okowa; He has done so well and it’s only a leader that thinks about tomorrow that can do this for his people.
The state governor, Dr Okowa maintained that the centre was established to enable teachers to continue with their education.
In his remark, the state Commissioner for basic and secondary education, Chief Patrick Ukah said, “the two buildings consist of two auditoria having 500 and 200 seater capacity respectively, syndicate rooms and meeting room, home economic laboratory, residential lodge of 110 rooms, physical and virtual libraries, computer rooms, maintenance and powerhouse, surveillance and security rooms and everything you need for the proper training of teachers.”
“We will also have a desk for the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria here because it is also a prerequisite for every teacher to be registered,” he said.
Chief Ukah affirmed that the Centre has since commenced the training of Teachers adding that five TPDC courses have been mounted with over 4,500 teachers as beneficiaries.
According to him, a detailed TPDC Training Manual covering over 60 courses for different cadres of teachers, education policy managers and administrators has been developed.
Over 500 teachers attended the inauguration.
