Goods worth millions of naira were in the early hours of Tuesday destroyed when Atakumosa Central market in Ilesa was engulfed by fire, Nigerian Tribune authoritatively gathered.
Our correspondent was informed that the gutted the entrance of the market started around 1.15 am.
Though the actual cause of the fire incident could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, an eyewitness said that shops located at the entrance of the market, identified as Adeti area were mostly affected by the inferno.

The fire did not affect the entire market as being speculated in some quarters.
However, men of the Osun State Fire Service, Ilesa unit mobilised to the scene immediately, but iron barricade installed for the protection of the slowed down the moves by the fire service officials to contain the fire outbreak.
When contacted, the administrative officer of Osun State Fire Service, Mr. Fatai Aremu confirmed the incident, explaining that the fire was put out around 3.45 am by men of fire service of the Ilesa unit.
Commenting on the fire outbreak, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Osun State Police command, Mrs. Folasade Odoro said adequate security was provided while the fire raged to avoid looting of the shops by hoodlums.
